Auto Vox D1 Review Full HD Dash Cam with WDR Superior Night Mode

Auto Vox D1 Review

  • Although the included car charger is rather nice with it's 2A supported USB output, I plugged this in via an OBD II to Mini USB power cord - and worked an absolute treat for continuous recording even while the engine is off. Of course, the motion sensor built-in will turn the unit on for motion events with a standard car charger, and the internal battery had longevity enough to give me three days of "Cats walking across the hood" shots ((LOL)) in car that wasn't driven at all during that time. This leads me to the second point:

  • Boot-up is very quick. Perhaps 2 seconds, maybe closer to one second, between power on and the splash screen before it is on and recording. Certainly quicker than most dash cams I have used. Pretty much all the "cat" events had them starting just to the side of the hood center, meaning it booted up and recorded quick enough as they lazily sauntered across.

  • Has a GPS auxiliary input. Doesn't come with a GPS terminal, yet I had one in my glove box from the big system one. So I plugged it in and got GPS location data included along with the video file records. However, I honestly don't know where one goes to buy these auxiliary plug-in GPS receivers.

  • AV and Mini HDMI video output (not Micro HDMI, completely different cable head).

  • Big menu font. My eyes are thankful.

  • Very typical video, photo, and general settings menus. All setting options are to the point, no "um, what is this supposed to do?" labeling or oddball English spellings.

  • Front IR Light can be manually turned off and on from the general settings.

  • 32GB Class 10 micro SD card already in the dash cam. Makes that easy, eh?

  • Never seen cable clips and a cable-snake bar included in any dash cam except only once... and that was with my more expensive big system. Should be a far more regular inclusion.

  • And of course, the most important part: very clear video/photos. Strong coloring (thanks to the WDR), good Light & Dark contrasting, sharp focus, and very pleased to say that night time video clarity has definitely improved in the past couple years, as evidenced by the Auto-Vox D1. The night-vision on the D1 is a **major** selling point amongst all the other good things.

  • In sum, I do believe fully that you will be pleased with the performance.

  • - Complimentary product provided for evaluation, yet my thinking here reflects all my personal purchasing decision processes, and hopefully may help clarify if this best meets your own needs and expectations.
